Roof Insurance Claim Checklist: Photos and Scopes That Support Your File

Restoration is won with evidence, not slogans

A roof insurance claim succeeds when it shows condition, cause, and code-aware repair paths. Pressure phrases (“sign today or lose coverage”) do not belong in a serious claim package.

Before the adjuster arrives

1. Wide shots of each roof plane and close-ups of bruising, missing tabs, lifted flashing, and punctures.
2. Interior photos of stains, buckets, wet drywall, and damaged contents with room labels.
3. Storm date, time window, and any weather alerts you saved.
4. Receipts for emergency tarping, temporary board-up, and dehumidifier rentals.
5. A simple room-by-room leak log: when it started, how often it drips, and what you moved.

The scope language that matters

Ask for a written, condition-based scope that separates emergency protection, targeted repairs, and full replacement. Line items should name underlayment, flashing, ventilation, and tear-off — not just “fix roof.”

If local code or matching requirements change the scope, put that in writing. Verbal “we’ll handle it” is hard to defend later.
